Nine key players left out as Liverpool name 21-man travelling squad vs. PSV

Liverpool’s 21-man squad for the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven has been confirmed.

The Reds have submitted a 21-man squad, with most of their key players missing the trip to the Netherlands.

Liverpool will face PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadium on Wednesday night in the final fixture of the league-phase stage. A single point would confirm Liverpool as group winners after eight matches.

As a result, Arne Slot has chosen to rotate his traveling squad for the short journey to the Netherlands on matchday eight.

PSV are almost certain to qualify for a play-off spot but are mathematically still in with a chance of qualifying for the top eight – though achieving this would require a victory on Wednesday evening.

Arne Slot put his team through their paces one final time at the AXA on Tuesday afternoon, and there was a welcome sight as Joe Gomez returned after eight games out with a hamstring injury. However, he does not travel, along with nine other regular first-team players, as Slot opts to rotate his lineup.

First-team regulars Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Luis Díaz will remain on Merseyside as part of Slot’s decision to rest his main lineup.

Confirmed Liverpool squad vs PSV

Goalkeepers: Kelleher, Jaros, Davies

Defenders: Quansah, Nallo, Bradley, Robertson, Tsimikas, Norris, Mabaya

Midfielders: Endo, Elliott, McConnell, Morton, Nyoni, Morrison

Forwards: Gakpo, Nunez, Chiesa, Danns, Kone-Doherty

Slot’s side has scheduled key matches. They will face Tottenham in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final in midweek, where they aim to overturn a 1-0 deficit, further adding to a hectic fixture schedule.

Also, Liverpool have a tough Premier League trip to Bournemouth on Saturday as they look to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the table. It’s no surprise, then, that Slot has chosen to rest the majority of his first-choice players for the game in Eindhoven.

Liverpool have won all seven of their Champions League matches so far and are guaranteed a top-two finish in the group regardless of the result against PSV.
