Manchester City have a huge boost ahead of the Champions League clash against Real Madrid, as one of their key players has returned just in time to readiness for the clash.
The past two Champions League winners will go head-to-head tonight as Manchester City host Real Madrid in a crucial first-leg showdown for a place in the quarter-finals.
Both teams have struggled with injuries in recent months, affecting their form. However, City have received a major boost just in time for this massive encounter.
City Welcome Back Key Players
Pep Guardiola’s side has been plagued by injuries this season, but several senior players have returned to training ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid. One notable name is midfielder Nico González, who was spotted training with the squad on Monday.
González, who joined City in January, made his debut in the 2-1 FA Cup win over Leyton Orient last weekend but was forced off after a knock just before Orient’s opening goal. Initially, he has been considered a doubt for this match but his presence in training suggests he could be available, providing a timely boost for Guardiola’s midfield options.
With Rodri still sidelined, Mateo Kovacic will start while new signing Nico Gonzalez can partner him having seemingly overcome the injury that forced him off at Orient. Those two can provide stability while a front four of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Savinho and Erling Haaland can flourish.
Defensive Reinforcements for Guardiola
City’s defense has been a concern due to injuries, but Guardiola now has more options at his disposal. Rúben Dias and John Stones could be paired together for the first time since October. Both played 45 minutes against Orient, and when fully fit, they form City’s strongest center-back partnership—something crucial against Madrid’s dangerous attack.
Josko Gvardiol is also set to return at left-back after being rested at the weekend.
