Lisandro Martinez's season is over! Man Utd confirm defender has suffered ACL injury

Manchester United have confirmed Lisandro Martinez’s cruciate ligament injury.

Manchester United on Thursday confirmed that defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered cruciate ligament damage, an injury likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.

Martinez, 27, was stretchered off in the latter stages of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace which ended in a 2-0 loss for the Red Devils.

What Manchester United said

On Thursday, the club officially confirmed the nature of the injury in a statement, which read:

“Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace,” the club said in a statement.

“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way.”

Martinez’s absence will be a big blow for Amorim as he looks to turn things around at Old Trafford. United currently sit 13th in the Premier League after the defeat to Palace, their seventh loss in 13 home games this season.

Amorim Reacts to Martinez’s Injury

“Licha [Martinez] is a difficult situation,” said Amorim, speaking before his side’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at home against Leicester City on Friday.

“He’s going to be out for a while. We don’t know the extent of the injury but it’s an injury that’s going to take time.”

The news comes at a time when there are renewed doubts over the fitness of left-back Luke Shaw, who has not started a game for United in almost 12 months.

“Luke has one small issue in a different area from the last injury, so we try to be careful with Luke,” added Amorim.
