Jamie Carragher urges Liverpool to sign a new left back

Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player and Sky Sports commentator, is urging Liverpool to find a new left-back in January. He suggests Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a good option because Andy Robertson has been struggling lately.

Robertson faced criticism after a poor performance in a recent match against Fulham, where his mistakes led to Liverpool dropping points.

Robertson’s Issues Against Fulham

Robertson’s problems started early in the game when he was tackled hard by Fulham’s Issa Diop. Many thought it was a bad tackle that should have led to a red card, but the referee and VAR did not take action. Unfortunately, things got worse for Robertson.

Soon after, he failed to defend properly, allowing Fulham’s Andreas Pereira to score the first goal. Just six minutes later, Robertson made a bad touch that gave the ball to Harry Wilson. In trying to recover, he fouled Wilson outside the box and received a red card for stopping a clear goal chance. This left Liverpool with only ten players for the rest of the match.

Although Cody Gakpo scored to tie the game, Fulham’s Carlos Vinícius put them back ahead later. Liverpool managed to equalize again at the end thanks to Diogo Jota.

Carragher’s Opinion: Liverpool Needs to Act

After the game, Carragher criticized Robertson and said Liverpool should sign Milos Kerkez to fix their left-back problem. He pointed out that the team can’t rely only on Robertson, especially when he isn’t playing well or gets injured.

“(Against Fulham) He didn’t seem to be running back properly,” Carragher said about Robertson’s performance. “He was hurt earlier and then made a mistake that got him a red card. He needs support. Liverpool need to find a backup in January.”

Carragher praised Kerkez for doing well at Bournemouth since joining. “Kerkez has been great at Bournemouth. The director who signed him is now at Liverpool,” he said.

“He looks like a strong left-back who has played very well since coming to the Premier League.”

Robertson has been a key player for Liverpool for years but has struggled this season. Besides his game against Fulham, he has given away penalties in other matches, although the goalkeeper saved those shots.

While Robertson has helped Liverpool succeed in the past, his recent play has led some to wonder if the club should look for a younger replacement. At 30, he is still important, but Liverpool needs to think about the future to keep their defense strong.

Possible Replacements: Kerkez and Alphonso Davies

Milos Kerkez, a 20-year-old who recently joined Bournemouth, has been impressing in the Premier League and is catching the attention of top clubs. He is fast, aggressive defensively, and good at attacking, making him a strong option to compete with Robertson.

Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s new sporting director, could help with bringing Kerkez to the club since he was involved in signing him for Bournemouth.

Another possible replacement is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who is considered one of the best left-backs in the world. However, his high price could be a challenge for Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has an important choice to make in January. With Robertson not playing well and no backup available, finding a new left-back should be a top priority. Whether they go for Milos Kerkez or look at other players, they need to strengthen the team to ensure their defense is solid.

As Liverpool aims to compete for the Premier League title, fixing their weaknesses could be crucial for their success. For now, everyone will be watching Robertson to see if he can return to his best form.
