Gary Neville Criticizes Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Selection

Manchester United lost to Newcastle United at Old Trafford, which led to strong criticism from former player Gary Neville. Neville focused on new manager Ruben Amorim’s choices for the team, saying they hurt the team’s performance.

A ROUGH START FOR RUBEN AMORIM

Ruben Amorim’s time as Manchester United manager has not started well. After Erik ten Hag left, fans hoped for quick improvement. Although Amorim had an early win against Manchester City, he has only won four out of 11 games overall.

The recent 2-0 loss to Newcastle is the fourth straight defeat for the club. Despite high hopes, people are questioning Amorim’s choices, especially how he set up the team.

NEVILLE’S STRONG CRITICISM

On Sky Sports, Gary Neville criticized Amorim’s lineup, saying that only one player, Amad Diallo, was in the right position. Neville stated, “When I saw that team, I thought there’s no way they can play well together. It’s impossible.”

He noted that Diallo was the only good part of a poorly arranged team. However, even Diallo had a hard time in the first half because he did not get enough help from his teammates. Neville said the players Amorim picked did not work well together, leading to slow play and a lack of creativity.

POOR TEAM CHOICES

Neville was especially critical of the midfield duo of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, saying they did not have the speed and balance needed for the game. He also questioned the use of Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot as wing-backs, pointing out that United had not scored a goal in games where they played in those roles.

“It’s not Casemiro or Eriksen’s fault,” Neville explained.

“In the first half, I thought Casemiro wouldn’t want Eriksen next to him and vice versa. They just don’t fit together. You need balance in midfield, and this setup clearly doesn’t have that.”

Neville also noted that the center-backs did not work well together, unlike past United pairs that had different styles but still succeeded.

A CHALLENGING FUTURE

The loss to Newcastle puts more pressure on Ruben Amorim, and the upcoming games will be tough. United will play Liverpool next and then go to Arsenal for the FA Cup.

Amorim must quickly fix these clear issues if he wants to improve the season. Neville’s comments highlight the need for better teamwork and strategy.

FAN FRUSTRATION

Fans have also expressed their anger at Amorim’s choices. Many are upset that he has not found a consistent team, while others want a clearer game plan. The loss has raised worries about United’s long-term direction and the club’s choices at the manager level.

Ruben Amorim has a challenging task ahead to regain the trust of fans and players. Mistakes in strategy, like those pointed out by Neville, cannot continue if Amorim wants to be successful at Manchester United.

The next games will test Amorim’s ability to adjust and improve. With tough competition coming up, the pressure is on for him to achieve results and create a working system.
