Ferran Torres was the star of Barca’s rout against Valencia, scoring his second ‘hat-trick’ as a culé. A triplet that also allowed him to break several records
FC Barcelona delivered a commanding performance in their Copa del Rey quarterfinal match against Valencia, securing a place in the semifinals with an emphatic victory.
Ferran Torres stole the spotlight with a stunning hat-trick, leading Barça’s charge at Mestalla on Thursday night. Fermin López and Lamine Yamal also found the net as the Catalan giants put on a show against a stunned Valencia side.
What Happened?
Replacing Robert Lewandowski in the center of the attack, , Ferran took full advantage of his opportunity, bagging a hat-trick within the first 30 minutes to seal the game early. The former Valencia forward opened the scoring in just the third minute, latching onto a perfectly weighted pass from Alejandro Balde before slotting home against his former club.
Did You Know?
This ‘triplet’ against the Che team was the second since his arrival in the City of Barcelona and the third of his career. Previously, the forward scored three goals against Betis (2-4) in the 2023/24 season and against Newcastle (3-4) in the 2020/21 season, when he was part of Manchester City.
This ‘hat-trick’ by Ferran is also the second fastest by a Barça player in the Copa del Rey (30 minutes). The last time a Barcelona player scored a quicker treble in the competition was on May 24, 1959, when Sándor Kocsis completed his hat-trick in the 22nd minute against Real Betis.
Interestingly, Barcelona’s last four Copa del Rey hat-tricks have all come against teams from the Valencian Community (3 of them against Valencia): Messi and Luis Suárez in the brutal rout against Valencia in 2016 (7-0); Arda Turan in the thrashing of Hércules also in 2016 (7-0) and now Ferran Torres has added his name to the list against Valencia this February 6, 2025 (0-5).
