Football legend Lionel Messi has reportedly made a decision about his next move once his Inter Miami contract expires.
Inter Miami CF star Lionel Messi continues to be a hot topic of speculation. Discussions about Messi’s future always spark intense debate, and recently, new details of his plans have emerged somewhat accidentally.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner last season led Inter Miami to their first Supporters’ Shield title. Despite playing just over half of the available games in 2024 for the Florida franchise, Messi won the MLS MVP award. However, the Flamingos were unable to clinch the Major League Soccer winner’s medal after a valiant effort in the playoffs in 2024.
With the 37-year-old’s long-term future still uncertain, football fans are eager to know his next destination when his time at Inter Miami eventually comes to an end.
Messi wants to return to Barcelona when Inter Miami Contract Expires
Messi has never hidden his desire to return to Barcelona once his record-setting career comes to a close. Speaking at the Economic Forum in Davos, Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham revealed that Florida will be bidding farewell to the Argentine GOAT: “I would like Messi to live in Miami when he retires, but Leo told me that he only thinks about living near the Camp Nou. There is no player who loves Barcelona as much as he does. You can see the Barca crest on his leg and even on his water bottle.”
Beckham also reflected on working with Messi and Inter Miami’s ambitious plans: “I have always believed in potential. You know, the United States is a powerful country, one of the biggest countries with the best opportunities and you believe in that. When I moved to the United States, I knew it was a land of opportunity. I knew I wanted to live in the United States at some point and create a business like the one we have done. Now I sit in my chair, in Miami, in that stadium and Leo walks onto the field and I think ‘I’m very proud of that’.”

Although Inter Miami are in talks with Messi over a potential new contract, this idea could soon be abadaoned if the former PSG superstar is set on returning to Barcelona to end his career.
Currently, Inter Miami are in pre-season action, taking on teams from from across the Americas, and Messi – who earned MVP honours in MLS last season is determined to add to his medal collection over the coming months.
