Brighton and Chelsea will battle for three points in the first match of Premier League Matchday 25 on Friday (February 14). The game will be played at the Amex Stadium.
Just six days after facing off in the FA Cup—where Brighton staged a 2-1 comeback win against the Blues—the two sides will meet again in the Premier League. Chelsea will return to the South Coast with revenge on their minds after that narrow cup defeat last weekend.
Brighton received a much-needed confidence boost from their recent meeting with Chelsea after they went into the fourth-round tie off the back of consecutive Premier League defeats, including a demoralising 7-0 loss against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Despite their cup progress, Brighton have won just twice in their last twelve league matches. Their last home victory in the Premier League came back in early November when they defeated a very Manchester City, 2-1.
Chelsea, meanwhile, sit fourth in the table with 43 points from 24 games, while Brighton are 10th with 34 points.
Brighton Team News
Club captain Lewis Dunk was unable to return for the second half last weekend and remains a doubt for this one. Adam Webster replaced him then and will likely start in his place. Other long-term absentees—Solly March, Pervis Estupiñán, and James Milner, among others—remain out.
Chelsea Team News
Like Brighton, Chelsea’s injury situation is effectively unchanged, though it was confirmed in the past few days that Nicolas Jackson will be out for the foreseeable future. Christopher Nkunku filled in for him last weekend, though not too impressively.
Reece James was rested for the FA Cup tie and should be set to feature, while Maresca did confirm that Filip Jörgensen is now the first-choice goalkeeper, so he should be back between the posts for this one. Wesley Fofana, Benoît Badiashile, Roméo Lavia, Marc Guiu remain out with injuries.
Winger Mykhaylo Mudryk is serving a provisional doping ban after it was revealed in December that he had tested positive for the prohibited substance meldonium.
