Pep Guardiola saw his team dismantled at the Emirates, losing 5-1 against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Arsenal put on a stunning display to demolish Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates, handing Pep Guardiola’s side a humbling defeat.
The Gunners dismantled their Premier League rivals in a match that saw them getting some revenge after losing the title to City by a whisker the previous two seasons.
Mikel Arteta’s men continued their impressive recent record over Manchester City. The North Londoners opened the scoring with Martin Odegaard after just two minutes but Man City equalised with Haaland, 24, in the second half.
Mikel Arteta’s men then went on full blast as they thrashed the Citizens with goals by Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri.
City struggled to break through Arsenal’s defense, with Haaland’s goal being their only real moment of joy in an otherwise disastrous night.
This was another embarrassing display for Pep Guardiola’s men, whose woeful season continues.
Arsenal Get Their Revenge On Haaland
The Gunners made sure to target Haaland after his confrontation with Arteta in the two teams’ first Premier League meeting at the Etihad in September where they drew 2-2.
After a fiery clash in Manchester the Norwegian goal machine had told Mikel Arteta to ‘stay humble’ and chucked a ball at the head of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes after City stole an injury-time equaliser in September.
But this was payback. When Martin Odegaard fired an early opener, Gabriel screamed into Haaland’s face.
When Myles Lewis-Skelly netted a peach of a first senior goal, he aped Haaland’s goal trademark celebration.
And when Kai Havertz netted the fourth in this rout of Pep Guardiola’s fallen champions, the Emirates erupted with thousands of Gunners fans chanting, ‘Haaland’s a c***, ole, ole!”
Erling Haaland’s Reaction
Despite Manchester City’s humiliating 5-1 loss, Haaland attempted to hit back after the final whistle.
The Norwegian striker flashed his gold Premier League winner’s badge at Gabriel and the Arsenal fans, seemingly trying to downplay the Gunners’ statement victory.
He repeated the gesture while applauding City’s travelling supporters, making sure to show off the badge to the home crowd in a defiant response to the taunts.
