ARTETA’S ARSENAL
Arsenal fans are hopeful for trophies. After beating Crystal Palace, they are in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and closer to their first big win since the FA Cup in 2020 with Mikel Arteta. Gabriel Jesus scored three goals, ending a long drought at the Emirates Stadium, showing Arsenal’s strength.
Since winning the FA Cup, Arteta has led Arsenal to two domestic semi-finals and a Europa League semi-final in 2021. This Friday is his five-year anniversary as Arsenal manager, making him the third longest-serving manager in the Premier League.
Under Arteta, Arsenal has changed from being average to a strong team in the Premier League. Expert Guillem Balague calls him “one of the game’s deep thinkers,” believing he can take Arsenal even higher. However, Balague thinks Arsenal still needs “one or two changes” to win more titles beyond their FA Cup and two Community Shields under Arteta.
ARTETA’S PROGRESS IN NUMBERS
– 366 Premier League Points: Only Manchester City (429) and Liverpool (396) have more points since Arteta became manager.
– Record-Breaking 2022-23 Season: Arsenal earned 89 points, with 28 wins and 91 goals, all club records.
– Runners-Up Consistently: Arsenal was second behind Manchester City in the last two Premier League seasons.
– Current Form: Arsenal is third in both the Premier League and Champions League groups and looking forward to the League Cup semi-finals.
This is a big change from the Arsenal Arteta took over in December 2019. After years of problems, Arsenal was 10th in the league when Arteta started.
The rebuild was tough. Arteta took over an old, unbalanced team and faced unhappy players, a pandemic, and unhappy fans. Although he finished eighth in his first two seasons, Arteta’s plan slowly changed the team. Now, Arsenal has a young and united squad.
However, Arsenal last won the Premier League title in 2004, and as the wait continues, pressure is increasing. Former Arsenal player Alan Smith says, “People say they need to win a trophy — but being in title races is also a sign of progress.”
FANS COMMENTS
Fans mostly praise Arteta for reviving Arsenal.
Scott:
“Arteta rebuilt the club, gave young players a chance, and made hard choices. Trophies will come.”
Savs:
“Compared to Manchester United’s struggles after Ferguson, Arteta has done a great job. Now he must win trophies.”
Tharun:
“We’ve gone from not making the top four to expecting trophies. It’s time to deliver.”
Lee:
“Arsenal needs a strong striker like Alexander Isak to help their midfield.”
Oyoo:
“The team looks good, but they need to finish better to succeed.”
THE FINAL HURDLE
Arteta has received a lot of money to improve Arsenal’s team. Since 2019, Arsenal has spent £500.14m. New players like Declan Rice and Kai Havertz show Arteta’s focus on quality.
Rory Smith from The Athletic notes:
“Arteta has brought Arsenal back to the top after years of decline. The hardest part — winning trophies — is still to come.”
Arteta believes his biggest success is “bringing the club together” and creating pride. But he knows the next step is clear: “Now it’s about winning.”
As Arsenal enters a crucial part of their season, fans, players, and management stay united in their hope. Whether Arteta wins this season or the next, Arsenal’s comeback under his leadership has reignited the dreams of fans wanting success.
