Arsenal’s chances of winning the title took a hit after they gave up a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa at their home stadium.
Gabriel Martinelli scored first for Arsenal in the first half, and Kai Havertz added another goal early in the second half. However, Villa quickly came back with goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins.
Havertz thought he had scored the winning goal near the end, but it was ruled out by VAR for handball. This result leaves Arsenal six points behind Liverpool, who won their match.
Arsenal missed their key defender William Saliba due to injury, which made things harder for their coach Mikel Arteta. They started strong, with Leandro Trossard forcing a save from Villa’s goalkeeper.
Martinelli scored the first goal in the 35th minute after Trossard set him up. The goal was confirmed by technology and was Martinelli’s seventh this season.
Arsenal kept playing well and Havertz scored in the 55th minute, with Trossard assisting again. But Villa quickly answered back, with Tielemans scoring a header just four minutes later. He almost scored again but hit the post.
In the 68th minute, Watkins tied the game with his own goal, making it difficult for Arsenal fans.
Arsenal tried to score again and thought they had succeeded when Havertz deflected a shot into the net. But VAR ruled it out for handball. Merino hit the post later, and Trossard missed a big chance at the end.
The match ended with Arsenal feeling frustrated as their chances of winning the title are now at risk after a long wait for success.
