In a shocking turn of events, reports suggest that Saudi club Al-Hilal has approached Real Madrid forward Rodrygo’s representatives regarding a possible summer transfer.

The Saudi giants are determined to land a world-class attacking star, with their top priority being Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, according to Globo. The club has already initiated talks with the Brazilian forward’s representatives and reached out to Real Madrid to explore the possibility of a deal.

This move comes as Al-Hilal looks to make a statement in the transfer market following Neymar’s departure. The Saudi Pro League side cut ties with the 32-year-old earlier this week, with Neymar sealing a return to Santos instead. Now, reports suggest that Al-Hilal has made a ‘super offer’ to sign Rodrygo, aiming to make him one of the highest-paid players in the league’s history.

Neymar’s move to Al-Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 turned out to being one of the biggest transfer flops of all time. Marca adds the cash-rich Saudi league wants to make Rodrygo the face of Al-Hilal around the world but the 24-year-old remains focused on succeeding at Madrid.

A Move Won’t Be Easy

Interestingly, Al-Hilal is well aware of the complexities involved, particularly considering the timing of the potential transfer and Rodrygo’s value to Madrid.

Currently, the Brazilian is under contract with Real Madrid until June 2028 and has a staggering buyout clause of €1 billion. Valued at €100 million, he ranks among the top 15 players globally in market value, according to Transfermarkt. However, Al Hilal sees an opportunity due to the uncertainty surrounding Rodrygo’s role at Madrid following Kylian Mbappé’s impending arrival. Although Rodrygo has fought to regain his place in the starting XI, he remains behind Mbappé and Vinícius in Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred lineup.

For now, Rodrygo remains focused on continuing his career at Real Madrid. This season, he has registered 12 goals and 7 assists in 28 matches across all competitions.
