British rapper Santan Dave, a well-known Manchester United fan, has sent Football Twitter into a frenzy with a series of strong opinions about the club’s current state. Using his Twitter handle @Santandave1, the award-winning artist didn’t hold back, sharing his frustration with United’s struggles on and off the pitch.
Dave, whose real name is David Omoregie, is known for his talents in music, with hit songs like Thiago Silva, Funky Friday, and Location. But this time, it was his take on football, not music, that had fans talking.
Dave’s Take on United’s State
The rapper summed up Manchester United’s situation in a way only he could, comparing the squad to a failing Career Mode save on FIFA:
“Watching Man United feels like career mode when you’re 8 seasons in and all the pros have retired and you start getting all the computer-generated players.”
But it wasn’t just the team’s performances that frustrated him. Dave also called out United’s club legends, accusing them of focusing too much on the past rather than supporting current players:
“It’s actually so sad that some of our so-called legends lack the validation you should have from winning everything possible in football and resort to selling themselves in podcasts and punditry, talking about the past at the expense of players they should be protecting.”
His frustration didn’t stop there. The rapper expressed how modern football feels complicated and soulless, with analytics, financial rules, and transfers overshadowing the essence of the game:
“Football’s weird bro. Hella managers and systems and signings, PSR and pure profit and whatever that means. Panic signings and player profiles and xG but I just don’t feel much.”
Dave made it clear that he believes Manchester United’s problems run deeper than football, blaming the club’s American owners, the Glazers, for the negative energy surrounding the team:
“Such a dark negative energy around Man United. Deeper than football. As long as the Glazers are in power we will never know peace.”
He also hit out at former United players who criticize current stars instead of supporting them:
“So-called club legends using nostalgia and bullying players who have had to play under situations that they have never been exposed to or understood.”
Dave admitted that United’s struggles have drained his passion for football, saying the club has lost its soul and continues to make the same mistakes over and over:
“For their own personal gain that is. I see through it now. I don’t feel much when Man United play. The soul of the team is gone. It’s all so strange. Open heart surgery, but our surgeons are crack addicts. We turn on our best players. Replace them with worse. Cycle repeats.”
“Every time I see a clip of Neville, Scholes, Keane I’m turning it off immediately. #rapidlyfallingoutoflovewithfootball”
