The Myles Lewis-Skelly moment that summed up Arsenal and Man City’s new reality

The teenager told the world who he was with a memorable strike and celebration

Myles Lewis-Skelly had a night to remember as Arsenal thrashed Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium. The 18-year-old announced himself in style, scoring his first Gunners goal in a thrashing of the reigning Premier League champions at the Emirates Stadium.

His goal—Arsenal’s third of the night—was a moment of pure brilliance. Cutting inside onto his right foot, he curled the ball beautifully into the top corner, leaving City’s defense helpless. This stunning 5-1 victory over the champions saw Lewis-Skelly produce a man-of-the-match display

But beyond the goals, the best moment was Lewis‑Skelly’s celebration. This was The Haaland, the lotus position plus deep-thought pose, Yoga‑Haaland, an outrageous piece of craphousery given the ongoing needle between his teammates and City’s superstar striker.

Arsenal went into their rematch with Manchester City with Erling Haaland’s instructions ringing in their ears, but by full-time the Norwegian’s advice was thrown back in his face.

“Stay humble”. Those were the two words uttered by Haaland after John Stones rescued a last-gasp point for City at the Etihad Stadium back in September. As the goals flew in for the Gunners on Sunday, though, he was quickly reminded of that fact.

Declan Rice weighed in on the celebration, saying: “It’s football antics. Things happen on the pitch. He celebrated, it’s obviously the Haaland celebration. I know he has respect for him, the whole team has big respect for him because of what he’s done, he’s a big player.”

The club legend Thierry Henry was full of praise for Lewis-Skelly, not just for his goal but for his attitude:: “I just love him, really. He’s one of our own.

“I liked the goal, but I enjoyed the celebration even more!”

Mikel Arteta also hailed the youngster’s confidence and fearlessness:

“He’s been nurtured in the academy and he feels it.

“He’s very good at expressing himself which some players struggle with. He takes risks and at his age that’s fantastic.”

The win lifted Arsenal three points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest but Liverpool, with a game in hand, still retain a strong advantage at the top.
