As the January transfer window intensifies, Chelsea, like Arsenal, are in need of a forward to re-energise their aspirations for the 2024/25 season. The Blues are now in talks with Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.
Nicolas Jackson is Chelsea’s current centre-forward, and he has managed to register nine goals and four assists in 21 Premier League games so far this season. Jackson is viewed as a player with very good potential. However, Chelsea are aiming to add a top-quality striker to their squad. The Blues held talks for Victor Osimhen last summer but were unable to finalize a deal. Chelsea are now evaluating other options.
Following the recall of Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace, it’s clear that manager Enzo Maresca is looking to strengthen not just the defence but more importantly, the attacking options at his disposal. Chelsea have reopened discussions with Bayern Munich regarding Mathys Tel, as the young forward signals his willingness to move, according to The Daily Mail.
Initially reluctant to leave Germany, Tel informed Chelsea early in the window of his intention to remain at Bayern. However, his recent absence from Bayern’s last three matchday squads appears to have altered his stance. Chelsea have reopened discussions with Bayern Munich regarding Mathys Tel, as the young forward signals his willingness to move.
The Struggles of Mathys Tel Under Kompany
Tel joined Bayern from Rennes for £25 million in 2022, earning praise from then-manager Julian Nagelsmann. However, despite a promising start, he has struggled to cement his place under Bayern’s new boss Vincent Kompany, who appears to favour Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane, and Serge Gnabry on the left flank.
Tel’s future is now uncertain, with Bayern seemingly open to selling for the right price His potential availability has attracted interest from multiple clubs, with Chelsea eager to strengthen their attacking options.
Chelsea in pole position for Mathys Tel
Popular football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed the news on X:
“EXCLUSIVE: Mathys Tel has just decided to leave Bayern in January!
Bayern and the player’s camp will assess all available options.
Chelsea asked for Tel at the beginning of January, but other clubs are also interested… the race is open.”
Arsenal as a Common Threat
Interestingly, Arsenal once again appears as a recurring obstacle in Chelsea’s transfer plans, showing interest in Tel as well. The forward’s final decision will be important, and Chelsea must present a compelling project to convinced him to choose Stamford Bridge over the Emirates.
The 19-year-old is not short of suitors, with seven offers on the table, including interest from Premier League clubs.
