LaLiga Rejects Barcelona’s Dani Olmo Registration Appeal

 DANI OLMO WON’T BE REGISTERED

The drama in Spanish football continues as LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have officially denied Barcelona’s request to register Dani Olmo. Even though the Catalan club managed to secure the funds needed to fit Olmo and young striker Pau Víctor into their budget, their attempts fell short due to timing issues.

THE BACKGROUND AND DECISION

Barcelona recently gathered the necessary funds to comply with LaLiga’s financial regulations, which would have allowed them to register both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. However, this financial adjustment came after the crucial December 31 deadline for player registrations, a date set by the governing bodies. Barcelona argued that they faced “force majeure,” claiming that unforeseen circumstances were to blame, but both LaLiga and the RFEF rejected this reasoning.

Because they missed the deadline, the playing licenses for Olmo and Víctor automatically lapsed. According to LaLiga and RFEF rules, players whose licenses are canceled cannot be re-registered by the same club in the same season. This regulation, found in Articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the RFEF’s General Regulations, was the foundation for the rejection of Barcelona’s appeal.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BARCELONA

Facing potential financial losses of over €100 million, the club is ready to take action. Barcelona plans to pursue legal avenues in hopes of reversing the decision. Club president Joan Laporta has hinted that there might be a split within the governing bodies, suggesting that the RFEF could be more favorable to Barcelona’s position than LaLiga.

On Friday night, Laporta accidentally shared a private message that hinted at RFEF’s possible support for Barcelona, sparking speculation that the club believes they have a solid chance to challenge the ruling.

If their legal efforts don’t pan out, Barcelona could face serious repercussions. Dani Olmo, a highly coveted player, might activate a clause in his contract that allows him to leave.
