Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, recently tackled the rising rumors surrounding Eric García’s potential exit during his latest press conference. The Spanish defender, who had a successful loan stint at Girona last season, has been the focus of ongoing discussions about a possible permanent transfer away from Camp Nou.
RUMORS ABOUT GARCÍA’S DEPARTURE
Eric García, known for his versatility on the field, has become a hot topic in Catalunya. There are indications that the former Manchester City player may not be part of Barcelona’s long-term plans. Girona, where García showcased his talent during his loan, is reportedly eager to secure him on a permanent basis.
Fabrizio Romano, a trusted name in football transfers, has reported that Girona is ready to propose €10 million for García. The club is keen to wrap up the deal soon, driven by the strong connection between García and Girona’s head coach, Michel.
“Girona want to seal Eric Garcia deal with Barça for €10m fee in the next days,” tweeted Fabrizio Romano on January 3, 2025.
HANSI FLICK’S COMMENTS
In light of these rumors, Hansi Flick aimed to ease concerns during a press briefing on Friday. He highlighted García’s importance to the squad, praising him as an astute player capable of thriving in various roles.
When questioned about the likelihood of García’s departure in January, Flick responded:
“I don’t think Eric García will leave in the winter. For us, he is ours, and he is a good player. He is an intelligent player that can play in different positions. We are not thinking about his departure at the moment.”
Flick’s comments indicate that García is still considered part of the club’s plans for the near future, despite facing limited playing time.
Eric García made his return to Barcelona in 2021 after progressing through the club’s renowned La Masia academy.
