David Seaman, a famous goalkeeper for Arsenal and England, has built a close friendship with Aaron Ramsdale over the years. Since Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021, Seaman has acted as a mentor, even doing informal training with him at Arsenal’s practice facility.
Their friendship stayed strong even after Ramsdale’s £24 million move to Southampton. Seaman, who is now 61, has always praised Ramsdale’s growth and maturity while he was at Arsenal. On his podcast, Seaman shared that he sent Ramsdale a supportive message before Southampton played at Arsenal in October 2024.
THE 11-WORD MESSAGE

A TOUGH GAME FOR RAMSDALE
The match was exciting. Southampton scored first in the 55th minute with a great goal from Cameron Archer. However, Kai Havertz quickly equalized for Arsenal just three minutes later.
Arsenal took control in the second half, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring from a cross by Bukayo Saka. Saka then scored again in the 88th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Southampton’s defense.
Even though Ramsdale let in three goals, he showed his skill and determination. He made important saves and reacted well under pressure, earning Seaman’s praise.
Seaman discussed Ramsdale’s performance on his podcast, praising his efforts despite the loss. Regarding Arsenal’s second goal, Seaman noted how Ramsdale had to quickly deal with several threats during a chaotic moment in the penalty area. While some people criticized Ramsdale’s position for the goal, Seaman defended him, saying the fast pace of the game left little time to react.
Seaman added, “He made some good saves as well. I was happy for him, but unfortunately, he let three in. It was a difficult game for him.”
LOOKING AHEAD
Ramsdale, who played 89 games for Arsenal in three years, will get another chance to play against his former team in the last Premier League match of the season on May 25, 2025.
