Chelsea have agreed a deal for forward João Félix to join Italian giants AC Milan on loan until the end of the season.

Chelsea forward João Félix has completed a loan move to AC Milan until the end of the season.

The Italian club has paid a £5 million loan fee for the 25-year-old Portugal international, with no obligation to buy him in the summer.

Although the announcement was made on Tuesday, all necessary paperwork was submitted before Monday’s transfer deadline for both Serie A and the Premier League. signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea in August for a £45 million permanent transfer, having previously spent part of the 2022-23 season on loan at Stamford Bridge.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move, stating:

“João Félix to AC Milan, here we go! Official bid accepted by Chelsea for a straight loan with no buy option. Salary covered by AC Milan, and the package is in excess of £5m, including the loan fee. João is now set for his AC Milan medical after giving the green light to the move last night.”

Limited Playing Time at Chelsea

Despite his talent, Félix has struggled for consistent game time at Chelsea this season. He has only started three Premier League matches but has regularly featured in cup competitions, scoring seven goals.

In early January, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca admitted that Félix’s opportunities had been limited due to Cole Palmer’s form.

“The only thing I’ve said since the start is it’s difficult to play games with so many attacking players,” the Chelsea boss told reporters.

“If Joao plays it means that Cole doesn’t play, or if Joao plays he has to play with Cole together but it depends on the game.

“For me it’s quite easy, we have three players that are more or less similar, Joao and Cole and Christo.”

Maresca continued: “Joao has played some games, Christo has played, they both played against Ipswich, they both played Southampton and Leicester. In some games we can play with them all together but not every game.”

Félix’s Career Path

Since rejoining Chelsea last summer, Félix has scored seven goals. The forward, who started his career at Benfica, moved to Atletico Madrid in July 2019 for £113 million—a deal that was the fifth-most expensive transfer in history at the time.

He spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Barcelona before returning to Stamford Bridge.

Milan currently sit eighth in Serie A and have already added Manchester City’s Kyle Walker to their ranks this month. They face Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday and have a two-legged play-off against Feyenoord in the Champions League later this month.
